In this hands on session you will learn how to use OBS Project, a free app for mac and windows, to turn your computer into a video production studio which allows you to present using a virtual camera in Zoom, Webex or Teams or you can record directly to a video file. Adding a green screen allows you to present in front of your content or anywhere on your screen as well as switch angles, screens to create movie magic. You’ll learn how to setup the software, use filters, switch between scenes, create a virtual camera and record for use for everything from teasers to training to presentations. We’ll also have some toys to learn, play and expand upscale your setup.

Being creative isn’t always easy. This session will bring out the creativity and innovation in all of us. We’ll also share creative ways we can move this creativity into not-necessarily-creative situations. This is an active session where we will share ideas in an open, receptive space. And, we will create a Learning DevCamp creativity souvenir for you to take home.

Looking to create a Simplified User Interface (SUI) to guide your learner toward the action you want them to take without all the distractions of busy interfaces? Come check out how SUIs can help reduce cognitive load, eliminate the need for example data, reduce the need for translations, and more. I’ll show you how to create scalable SUI graphics in Adobe Illustrator. No more blurry screenshots! If you don’t have Illustrator don’t worry, I’ll show you a quick mockup in Snagit as well. You can apply what you learn in whatever graphic tool you prefer.

There are a lot of things that Articulate Storyline can do, but it also has some limitations. The out-of-the-box animations, for example, feature simple movements and transitions, but that is basically it. Advanced logic requires a lot of triggers, as well. It may seem that Storyline’s default functionality is all you can do, but that’s not the case. You can get much more out of Storyline than you can with its out-of-the-box features by adding some simple JavaScript snippets to triggers. This allows you to extend current functionality. You don’t need to be a coder to use these simple snippets.

In this session, we will learn how to add and adjust these JavaScript snippets to extend Storyline’s capability. For example, we will walk through how to create a timer independent of the Storyline timeline. We will also use a snippet to detect the current date and learners’ device type, allowing you to adapt content and media depending on the time of the year or the learner’s device (Mac/Windows). We will then dive into getting more engaging custom animations that allow for scaling with various pop effects, rotation, sequencing, and more that Storyline cannot do out-of-the box. These simple snippets will add the ‘wow’ effect to your Storyline courses and allow you to get more out of Storyline.

In this session, participants will work through several advanced imaging techniques that can be applied to learning design. These techniques go beyond the basics and the capabilities of more foundational tools like PowerPoint. Participants will be invited to complete each technique as the facilitator describes them step-by-step. You will learn how to use adjustment layers for both non-destructive color correction and creative color adjustments within your images. Next, you’ll make a static image more dynamic by adding motion with new Photoshop filters. Attendees will learn several text effects appropriate for learning that will allow them to create dynamic display text that engages viewers. This session will emphasize the importance of high-quality imagery in contemporary learning and provide you with the workflow, knowledge, and inspiration you need to create.
