Power. Maybe you don’t like the “power plays” at work. Maybe you’re someone who knows intuitively how to navigate the hallways of influence. Regardless of which side of the spectrum you feel comfortable with, we all need to understand and leverage power dynamics at work to get things done, to advocate for our teams, and to advance our careers. In this session we’ll discuss power as the ability to control scarce and desired resource in the organization, where the sources of power reside, and how to tap into them carefully to influence others. We’ll look at power both in terms of our own personal leadership capacity as well as that of the L&D function as a whole.

In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world, learning and development demands more than strategy or technical expertise—it requires intelligence to connect deeply and lead effectively. This talk explores The Art of Intelligence, a transformative framework that integrates Strategic Intelligence (SQ), Relational Intelligence (RQ), and Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to redefine learning in the modern era. Strategic Intelligence is about foresight: making smart decisions, navigating complexity, and crafting a vision that inspires action. Relational Intelligence is about connection: fostering trust, managing conflict, and enabling collaboration. Emotional Intelligence ties them together, providing the self-awareness, empathy, and regulation that fuel impactful strategy and meaningful relationships. Through real-world stories and actionable insights, this talk demonstrates how blending these three dimensions will maximize learning effectiveness. Attendees will leave with a fresh perspectives on learning development— techniques that are as emotionally attuned as they are strategically sharp. They’ll learn practical ways to align vision with connection, foster trust while delivering results, and inspire others through authentic, emotionally intelligent development practices. Ultimately, The Art of Intelligence shows that true people development is not just about what you achieve but how you achieve it—by empowering people, cultivating relationships, and balancing strategy with heart.

In today’s data-driven world, understanding and leveraging performance data is crucial for instructional designers. While much of the conversation around generative AI focuses on content creation, AI tools can be your valuable partner in analyzing performance data to uncover performance gaps, evaluate learning performance, and measure outcomes on the job. This hands-on session will equip participants with the skills to utilize AI tools like ChatGPT to analyze both structured and unstructured data. Megan will guide attendees through practical activities using AI supports in Excel and Google Sheets, and demonstrate how to upload and analyze data with ChatGPT. Emphasizing on-the-job performance data, participants will learn to extract meaningful insights without the need to upload their own data, as we’ll provide data sets for practice. Throughout the session, we will leverage the W.I.S.E. A.T. A.I. framework for the effective and ethical use of AI.

Motivation is at the heart of effective learning, yet many learning & development professionals overlook the critical role it plays in designing a great learning experience. This session will explore the key differences between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and why both are essential in driving learner engagement. While intrinsic motivation is deeply personal, extrinsic motivation often determines whether a learner persists or disengages. However, even the most motivated individuals can lose interest if a course is poorly designed. Learning & development professionals must go beyond content delivery and consider how their choices impact learner motivation. This session will provide actionable strategies to design courses that sustain engagement, foster motivation, and prevent the common pitfalls that lead to learner burnout and disengagement.

The Learning Experience and Production Team (LXPT) at Intermountain Health comprises instructional designers, digital learning developers, writers, and graphic designers. We develop and produce educational resources for over 60,000 field practitioners, including clinical nurses and leadership development. One challenge we face is obtaining timely content from SMEs and content experts. To address this, we created an Educator Upskilling program. This 8-week program includes self-guided modules and instructor-led sessions on instructional design, learning theories, and learning experience. Participants also complete a learning project to apply their new skills. Continuous improvement is driven by participant feedback. This presentation will share lessons learned and offer strategies for effectively collaborating with SMEs and content experts.

For years, trying to customize eLearning content often meant hitting a wall at some point—whether due to limited resources, technical expertise, or simply not having the right people to bring ideas to life. Too often, this left us stuck with “out-of-the-box” solutions, sacrificing creativity for convenience.

AI is changing that. With the right prompts, we can design anything we imagine. But AI isn’t magic—it’s a tool, like a calculator. The key isn’t just using it, but knowing how to use it effectively. Without the right inputs, we won’t get the right output

In this session, we’ll dive into how to craft effective prompts in Cursor AI to generate and customize learning interactions. You’ll learn how to structure prompts for the best results and understand the underlying components that shape your outputs. Whether you’re enhancing a Storyline course or building something from scratch like a mobile app, this session will give you the framework to unlock AI-driven customization.

In the United States alone, there are over 1 million known credentials and almost 60,000 credential providers. What does this mean, and how are learners navigating their way through these credentials to find what best serves their needs and will lead to better job opportunities or career growth? This session will address the types of credentials, designing a learning ecosystem that is inclusive of credentialing pathways, and how a skills-first approach to designing learning will set your learning products apart. This session is geared toward learning professionals who are new to credentialing or who want to learn more about credentialing pathways and skills mapping. With a shift toward skills-based hiring and away from traditional degrees, there has been a rapid increase in the types of credentials coming to market. This session will walk through the types of credentials, their similarities and differences, and why most training cannot be classified as certification—that is, the ability for a participant to put letters after their name or state they are “certified in [topic].” A main differentiator in credentialing types is the assessment strategy and design. This session will introduce participants to “psychometrics 101” by evaluating different types of assessment strategies and protocols; additionally, we’ll build from this information to highlight various tools and activities participants can leverage in designing their credentialing scheme and determining how to effectively and efficiently embed it into their learning ecosystem. (Think “measure twice, cut once.”) Finally, this session will highlight the technology backend that is fueling the skills-based movement and how those tools and activities we’ve discussed can be used to create a comprehensive learning strategy, inclusive of credentials. This session will utilize polling, visual depictions of the process, stories from the field, and technology show-and-tells to bring the learning to life. Participants will also be provided with a job aid/handout to support their learning.

*Session type and offerings may change without notice.
